Chiang Mai Zoo
The zoo has hilly surroundings that are home to numerous wild plants and flowers adorning the natural landscape of valleys, streams and waterfalls. Animals at Chiang Mai Zoo are well looked after and you can see them enjoying in their habitat. You can also feed some animals but first ask for permission from the zoo authorities. Elephant Nature Park
Elephant Nature Park is a unique project set in Northern Thailand. Established in the 1990's our aim has always been to provide a sanctuary and rescue centre for elephants. The park is set in Chiang Mai province, some 60km from the city, and has provided a sanctuary for over 30 distressed elephants from all over Thailand. Mae Sa Snake Farm
Mae Sa Snake Farm, Chiang Mai has a large collection of Thai snakes. Meo Tribal Village
Meo Tribal Village, Chiang Mai gives us deep insight on the people and culture of Chiang Mai. The houses in these villages are constructed with the floor slightly raised. Museum


National Museum Chiang Mai
Opened in 1972, Chiang Mai National Museum (a little further north along the Super Highway has many fine sculptures in the Chiang Mai, Dvaravati, Lopburi, U Thong and Sukhothai styles (mainly the former), also terracottas from Haripunchai. The footprint of Buddha with mother-of-pearl intarsia also deserves mention. The upper floor houses a collection of tools and other artifacts used by the hill tribes.   More information

Tribal Research Centre and Museum
Chiang Mai University, opened in 1965, is also situated north-west of the city on the way to Wat Doi Suthep. The university's Tribal Research Center and Museum is dedicated to the study of the hill tribes, and to ensuring their survival and that of their culture. The museum provides an interesting insight into the lives of the hill peoples. Examples of their craftwork are also on display.

Temples


Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep
This famous and important temple dating from 1383 enjoys a prominent position in Chiang Mai, overlooking the city from its mountainside perch. It sits about 3,520 feet above sea level and is accessible via a steep naga staircase comprising around 300 steps. The temple has a huge golden chedi (spire), within which lie some holy Buddha relics that attract devotees from the world over. A walk around the grounds reveals a variety of colorful and fragrant flowers, and murals that depict Buddha's previous lives. Any visit to the city is incomplete without stopping by this temple.
